Dear Colleagues,
In the past decade or so basic scientific research has begun to transform the field of TMD. Not all of this knowledge has necessarily passed on to the clinicians who deal with patients on a daily basis. This Special Issue of JOFPH will highlight the evidence based advances that have been made and will relate those to current practice with the object of improving treatment outcomes. The imperative to make a focused diagnosis and to deliver the correct treatment is paramount. The knowledge that TMD is a chronic overlapping condition is an unfamiliar concept in the field of a procedural profession. Clinicians of all levels of experience, therefore, need to have this contemporary knowledge presented in an appropriate way.
